Nah, this isn't about the Confederates of 1860, this is generations later. Even if they had won their independence slavery would not have likely lasted the Century. Plus it might have avoided many problems that came about because they lost the civil war. Maybe the black population would have avoided Jim Crow and segregation if they were seen to have freed 'legally' and honorably than by war and the force of northern arms. And if the government compensated them, an idea rejected before the war.
Anyways, if the US and Confederacy had been split I doubt the US would have entered WW-1, The Spanish-American War might not have happened. I have the South annexing Cuba as a state, in this story. Weaponry would not have developed at the same pace if their involvement in WW-1 was avoided or at least reduced drastically.
Well just my idea. I dunno.
Same with aircraft, the monoplane would probably have come a bit later. I saw bi-planes still being used alongside the new monoplanes.
I do not defend the Confederacy or slavery and I definitely am not the writer that Harry Turtledove is.
