Sounds like Marco's got some pretty big plans...

I am not even sure where its going. I am pretty sure he'll get control of the colony, ruling a very shaky coalition. I think the Viceroy is "lost in the wilderness". I don't know how I'd be able to ever get him back to Earth at this point.

Coalitions can be hellish to keep together long-term. Marco would be doing a lot of diplomacy and feather-smoothing to keep everyone mollified, let alone building on something. As for him returning to earth... hmmm... there would be a supply ship or some inspection team coming at some point, yah? They could make a show of being the interim management while making a show of gallantly searching for the lost commander... while plotting to get the ship and make a run to a few other such colonies, work out how to co-opt them, and build forces.

The supply ships expect to pick up product, refined metal from this particular colony. It will be interesting to see how they react to the new "government" down there when they expect to pick up a load.

I am curious about how this will play out.

I just wrote this. No proofreading or anything. Off the top of my head.
The massive vessel seemed to exit a black fog, it sort of appeared as a blur and slowly came into focus. It was a massive vessel, its cargo holds mostly empty. Within minutes the computer was able to calculate their exact location and send an automated message to the nearest jump gate.
The ships pilot and navigator logged the destination and monitored the readouts with a look of satisfaction. He was still impressed with his assignment on the Kiev. The ship was commanded by Captain Ron Wright but everyone knew that the real power aboard was the "Captain's Fleet Liaison".
Everyone called him the Zampolit. He was responsible for ensuring loyalty to the Czar aboard the vessel. Every vessel, space station, military unit and colony had them. They had the power to take over and were rarely held to the law.
Laury Lambourg was called everything from "LaLamb" to "Lammie" behind his back.
Pilot Shane Watersmith noted that the ship was heading in the proper direction and at the right speed. Long-range sensors were scanning to assure him that the planet was in the right place.
Soon they would arrive at the Cochrane Colony. He expected another smooth exchange of supplies like food and medicine for the huge loads of goods they would deliver to Earth. Cochrane would be metals of several type.
In the Captain's office:
"Captain Wright, please don't take this the wrong way" The Liaison began. He usually said that when he knew it would be unpleasant for the Captain. "I will need to conduct a survey of the crew after we conclude operations at Cochrane".
Again? The Captain asked himself. These Sampolits spent their time justifying their positions with tests and interviews. It was bad enough the man took up space, breathed their precious air and ate their food. Did he also have to bore them all half to death?
"Mr. Lambourg. We both know that I cannot forbid this, why do you always bother to ask?" The Captain asked, again. It really was a waste of time. The Liaison seemed to seek these meetings as if they were friendly encounters. Indeed no-one onboard could claim to be on good terms with the man much less friendly.
"Captain. I believe that I must inform you of my activities in order to assure us these things happen orderly and without getting in the way of the operating of the vessel. I'd hate to cause a problem for you" The Zampolit smiled.
I am a canary to this hungry cat who seems to think I should pop the cork of a bottle of wine every time he visits me with bad news or orders to do things outside my job description. Should I also serve cheese and crackers the Captain thought ruefully, coughing to cover up a laugh.
"We are nearly to Cochrane. We should be there within days. We can discuss this when we are fully loaded with metal. I really don't want to think about political things very much, the topic tires me" the Captain said. He had always assumed the spy, for that was his job, would assume that he didn't opposing the Czar.
The man stood, saluted satirically and left. Captain Wright leaned back in his chair and sighed. Sometimes trying to live the dream of space travel was very tiring.

That Lambourg sounds like a despicable little skunk. I bet the crew must be gleefully visualizing the look on his face as he's pushed out an airlock.

Probably about as popular as the real Zampolits back in the USSR I would imagine. They were nothing more than spies checking for any sign of disloyalty to the Party.

I suppose after Bamsy consolidates his power and declares himself POTUS for life, his pet ACORNs will fit neatly into that role.
OK, enough of real life...

Lamourg sounds like the typical soviet Political Officer indeed. I hope he gets what is coming to him.
And yes I agree on that Cambrian. Obama has way too much similarity to the dictators of the past, especially the personality cult and 'czars' (his own commissars) that do not answer to congress or the people.

Yes. Lambourg is one of those anal retentive types who love to rule an HOA with an iron fist...
