If they can produce an episode of Trek each year over at Phase II... why can't we get some people together and try it?
I'd like something more original. Something we would own all the rights to. How much would it cost and all that? Where would we find the special effects wizards? Who gets to keep that expensive LIGHTWAVE program in their computer? How many people would it require behind the camera?
Do you think any of the ideas we've thrown up on this board would be a good movie?

Location.
Equipment needs & costs.
Volunteers + Actors.
Script.
These are a few things that would need to be considered.

Do you think any of the ideas we've thrown up on this board would be a good movie? Earth Czar certainly would. It is a very neat concept and could probably be shot at an abandoned quarry (as long as there is rock crushing equipment to convince viewers that it is one of the mines) while the space scenes could be rendered by a CG program. I would love to see Vigilance as a movie, though I would of course want it to be a faithful adaption. It would have to be an animated feature though, because there are many things that could not be done live action on a shoe string budget. Running Silent would be good as well. Would not really need any fancy effects. I am not really knowledgeable on film making though.

Animated is a good idea. Not cheapy animation like we see in series TV though.
I remember a book called Saturn Rukhs or something like that which would make a good animated film, sans sexual stuff. Kids would love the idea of these creatures living in the Saturnian atmosphere, i think.
You have given me something to think about now. Abandoned quarry+ empty warehouse for a studio....
hhhmmm

No, I would not want to do the cheapy animation. I would want the visuals to match the epic scope of the story lol. And there would be no sound in space scenes (I went out of my way to make this story realistic), replaced instead by dramatic music. But adaptions of this story will have to wait until I get completed.
I just read about Saturn Rukh. Looks like a very interesting story.
As for making films. Well, you could shoot with a run of the mill digital camera some some independent film makers do, and even use the shaky style to your advantage and do the same style of cinematography used in Cloverfield (which was made to look as if it was shot on a hand held digital camera). Heck, you could even have the camera man be his or her own character (he or she is a combat photographer or something).

I agree. Shaky cam for the battle in the mines, running out with the slave miners to get their weapons from the newly opened armories aboard their giant vehicles....

The most believable weapons would be real guns modified to look futuristic (the producers of Aliens did this) and use of blank ammunition to simulate gunfire, but procuring a lot of guns won't exactly be cheap. Scratch making props and then adding in sound and tracers or beams is another option, though I do not know of any computer program to add those kind of effects to videos.
